Benefits
The Asus VivoBook Pro N552VX-FY304T isn’t marketed as a gaming laptop but even without the fancy title, it is more than capable of handling some of the most demanding games available. It has some nice hardware built-in including an Intel Core i5 and 12 GB of memory. With most mid-range options stopping at 8 GB of memory the extra 50% more included in this setup makes a real difference you can notice. A laptop that is capable of playing games needs more than just a nice processor and memory combination but also needs a decent video card, The Nvidia GTX950 graphics card isn’t top of the line but is still very capable of handling most games on medium to high settings.
Asus has done a nice job of making sure the little things are taken care of on this model as well starting with the decision to go with 100% USB 3.0 on its design. With many laptops opting to go with a combination of this and the older 2.0 technology the ability to plug in up to 3 devices at once and have them all taking advantage of the high speeds available on USB 3.0 is great.
By including a hybrid drive you will notice a big improvement in start-up time compared to other models that just use a straight SATA hard drive setup. The laptop gets this benefit from the 128 GB SSD drive that is included as it has much faster read and write times compared to a SATA drive due to its lack of moving parts.
Downsides
Not everything is perfect on the Asus VivoBook Pro N552VX-FY304T as it does have a couple of areas that could have been improved. The first of these is going with a smaller 128 GB SSD, While you still have plenty of overall storage due to the 2nd drive which is a large 1 TB SATA the limited space available on the much faster SSD may have you have to put some frequently access files on the slower option.
For a 15.6 inch laptop, this VivoBook falls behind when it comes to mobility. With 6 hours or more being typical on most standard-sized laptop models the 4 hours provided here feels very disappointing, Also another strike against it in this category is the heavier than average weight at 2.5 Kg.
Verdict
Even with its few negatives, the Asus VivoBook Pro N552VX-FY304T feels like a laptop that should be pricier than it is. The performance is top-notch and the design and features available match up well to other options that cost much more. If you can look past its poor showing when it comes to mobility this should be a really strong contender for your next purchase.
